I'm 21 years old from Brazil and I have a 1 year old son.I need some form of transport to maximize my life and time, but I don't make much money.Should I buy a car to use only on weekends when I pick up my son from his mother's house, but not every day to go to work due to the price of fuel or should I buy a motorcycle to speed up my life to go to work and college, and pick up my son on the weekends using Uber?
you should get a better job
>>1993771Buy a car, but buy one that's extremely good on gas because most motorcycles you can get used especially now are getting shit mileage and are comparable to a decent ICE or hybrid car. A Geo Metro gets surprisingly good mileage. Oh, and learn to do repairs yourself it will save you money big time. Small car = Motorcycle > Big car > SUV/Truck > Bicycle > Bus/Transit > Train

panniers and frame bags remind me of old people. I use a backpack. What backpacks do you non-boomers use?
>>1993711>Cheap pannier racks are pointless and will sheer off at the bolts the moment you put any load on them and hit a bumpNo one is forcing you to overload your rear rack to the point of catastrophic failure. Solutions like pick related are aerodynamic and give you storage space that doesn't wobble and flap around. If you stay within the weight limit (usually 25kg/55lbs), they'll never break. And even if you were extremely paranoid and only used 50% of that, you'd still have a very practical option for extra space on your bike.

Why are there no container ports for the Great Lakes, like there are on the East and West coasts of North America? Why is it only used for bulk cargo at the moment?
>>1991103The Canadian version is the Coasting Trade Act. It has the same stipulation about Canadian flagged vessels getting preference in-between domestic ports, but in 2010 they removed tariffs on foreign-made ships, so Canada has a respectable fleet now. Also it’s more permissive of foreign-flagged ships to perform coastal trading if no Canadian flagged vessel is available, the US only allows it by Presidential waiver.
Holy fuck, why is there a /pol/ack who is calling everyone a chink? Stay on your containment boards, and jannies need to do their job.
>>1991199Could there be a market in making ports on the canadian side of the border and then doing the last mile to the american side on trucks or trains?
I randomly clicked on this board just to see if theres actually people talking about something so autistic as transportation, and this is the first thing I see.
>>1993731The best place to do that would probably be near Windsor. The rail infrastructure already exists, and they're near major US population centers (Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati). Obviously developing the port, politics, labor constraints, and getting seaway-max container ships are the major impediments. We'll definitely not see any hurry to do anything with the current politicians in charge.
Is there anything more based than 90s mountain bikes?
>>1993737The melon Marin went out for several hours and many miles of sand today, it does well. Would I be more comfortable downhill with 3” tires and 780mm bars? YesWould I climb better with a 1x10 and more upright riding position to stand pedal? YesWould disc brakes help me actually stop when flying downhill on the way back on paved roads in the dunes? Absolutely god damn yes I was terrifiedBut the fun is enjoying the flaws. I never quite rip shit up exactly the way I do on this thing. The front end just does not want to be on the ground, it wants to hop all over shit and wheelie everywhere. The far reach, low down riding position downhill makes everything feel dangerous and fast and it gives me an adrenaline boner.Everybody likes this bike, complete strangers comment on this thing because they enjoy its vibe. I enjoy its vibe.I still take a very different bike to the bike park because if I’m gonna send it through rough stuff I want a modern bike, but this is super cool for what it does
peak bike
>>1993095Gravel bikes are just road bikes with more tire clearance, better brakes and more reliable derailleurs. What exactly is so terrible about them? They eliminate most of the limitations of road bikes and do it without any major cost on performance. They're less finicky, more reliable and perform almost identically on paved roads if you use narrower tires on them. Sounds like you're itching to stand out with your flaming hot contrarian opinions
>>1993756Nta but I think the problem with gravel bikes is their audience is using them for the wrong things. It gives this impression of a mountain and road hybrid bike. So they buy a gravel bike thinking it’ll be good for both mountain bike stuff, and road bike stuff, except it’s not great at either of those things. It’s good enough, but the specialized tool for each job would do way better.Gravel bikes are good for gravel bike stuff, really good for it, they’re the ideal tool for their ideal circumstance. It’s just not everyone uses them for that. I see people taking them on distance rides on greenways and then I see people crawling over technical stuff in bike parks on them, they’re just not good for that.

>>1989540is your city that poor that your sidewalks are genuinely unusable
>>1989763Like I said, the new ones are really nice. Unfortunately they go to literally nowhere. They also go the long way around and that increases the miles of your trip. They are just there for recreation. I use a mirror when I use the road and that makes my rides on roads better. If people tried that I think they would not be so scared and they wouldn't let a lack of bike lanes stop them from riding
>>1989520i hate sharing sidewalks with cyclists. they mean you've got to pay a lot more attention as a pedestrian because now you could kill some dickhead and break your arm if you try to walk around someone else. sidewalks for pedestrians, roads for bikes, and the scrapyard for cars.
If they want people to cycle on streets with cars then they should at least maintain the appropriate quality of infrastructure. I just nearly rolled over and slid after going front wheel into a giant ass pothole near a pedestrian crossing. That can be hard to spot in overcast weather or when there's a depression on the other side of the road that masks the edges. And it hurts. This is the same place where they told me not to use the sidewalks, by the way.
When Forrester tells us to ride on the road, and how unsafe the cycle path or sidewalk is, this is his personal experience. Tell me if this matches your own experience.

So after a winter hibernation since our close promotion miss in last years' Autumn Babby Cup /n/'s divegrass team is doing preflight checks and preparing for take-off in our 2024 4Chn Spring Babby Cup campaign beginning later today. >What is this? This is a regular COM vs. COM football tournament on PES with tactical, aesthetic and music team exports built, custom player models designed and live managed by users from every 4chan board that participates. The cup normally runs four times a year and has been going since 2011. Normally there are two 'babby cups' for the lower ranked teams and two 'elite cups' for the top ranked teams in a promotion and relegation system of the top and bottom 16 finishers. Night rides are the comfiest. Especially if they start at 14:00.
I went out earlier than usual and the cafe where I usually stop was PACKED with roadie chads and stacies who all seemed to know each other and they all had really nice bikes and they were all good looking and had good social skills. They were unreasonably nice to me and didn't make me feel bad about being a weirdo riding alone but in the future I'm going to go back to my schedule of leaving late in the morning so it's just me and a few other ugly loners like me and my bike is the nicest one in the rack because it's mostly casuals and asocial freaks at that hour.

Should the Port Authority consider the development of a railway/subway line from New Jersey to Staten Island?Everyone knows that Staten Island is the bumhole of NYC transit, having one heavy rail line that runs worse headways during off-peak than any 24h Subway line during the night. That even includes the Rockaway Park shuttle whose five stops are among the nine least used on the entire network according to 2014-2019 figures. Now every half assed transit enthusiast knows that Staten Island once had a line going from St. George along the north coast of the borough. The continuation of that line is now a cargo rail line into New Jersey. This provides two opportunities>A rail line along the existing right of way to Elizabeth and Newark, providing direct rail service to Newark Airport and potentially midtown Manhattan>A subway (PATH) or light rail (in collaboration with NJ Transit) line that crosses the state border over the Kill van Kull and then uses the existing right of way at Port RichmondAll three options will need at least a 3 mile long tunnel to reconnect St. George with the elevated section at Port Richmond. The rail line option would need a connector to the Northeast Corridor line at Elizabeth Port, while both the subway and light rail options would need a bridge or tunnel to cross the river. And of course the Subway would need a major extension project across Hudson County. How realistic would such a project be, and do you think it would be reasonable or maybe even needed? Also I am not an American so I don't have expert knowledge on all the different parties required to make such a project happen so feedback would be welcome in that regard.

Please help, im just new to this and afraid that's tires will be too soft for the road.
>>1993601softness of the tire is based on pressure, tire casing, and volume. Also, if you go 5-10 psi below max psi your tire will be hard unless you weigh 300lbs.Oh, and for XC mtbing a michelin country racer looks good.If you are talking mostly road and a little off road continental race king 29's would be good.kenda small block 8 is a classic cheaper tire. For more road a wtb byway could be good if you are looking for just side knobs.Panaracer gravelking sk is similar.Just look for something you like and try it out.
