Thinly veiled /pol/ posting.
>When you consider the culture of the Brazilians it all makes sense
It doesn't, we despise any signs of cowardice.

Laughable
>For over 100 years guard pulling was considered a cowardly dishonorable act, and one who does it is running away from a fight so this could be the only result if you base your entire identity around such a practice
That's what happens when any martial art turns into a sport, retard

Riding season started above the equator Edition

FAQ on buying a bike that nobody reads anyway:
> What good bike can I get for under $500?
a stolen bike. Possibly a newer used entry level hardtail but don't expect it to survive rock gardens, jumps, or drops. Or an older mtb which won't be as good as newer ones and will still have a front derailleur, but it'll be good enough.
> What good bike can I get for under $1000
Good used hardtail, new entry level hardtail
> What good bike can I get for under $2000?
New Hardtail, decent used full suspension
> What good bike can I get for under $3000?
https://www.yt-industries.com/fr/produits/velos/capra/uncaged-10-al/602/capra-mx-uncaged-10/
Used full suspension, decent entry level full suspension but prepared to put more money into it.
> What are the excellent value brands?
Marin, Commencal, Canyon, Polygon, YT, Propain, Kona, and many more. Sometimes the expensive brands have an excellent alue bike

How bad is it to get a medium sized bike when I'm 6' 170lb and I wear 32-34" jeans?

This is pretty subjective - different manufacturers will have different sizing, and you may prefer smaller or larger frames. The only real way to find out what would be best for you is to try different sizes yourself.

You should see if there are any mtb events coming up near you soon. Usually bike brands will show up with demo fleets to let you try the bikes on nearby trails for free to get a feel for their handling/sizing.

Ride to get /fit/ to ride more. I will hit the campus gym to go run a few miles and go lift occasionally. These past few weeks I've just been getting out 2-4 times a week about 2hrs at a time and getting better at jumping. I can almost land a jump into a manual now which feels super steezy. I also learned how to do a rear wheel hop backwards which felt surprisingly natural. I need to increase the amount of hops I can do.

- What is ESSENTIAL to have and to understand regarding Self Defense?

- What is the best Martial Art or the combination of Martial Arts for Self Defense?
>>
>>195615
Zip code kung fu. This is the ancient art of having good income, living in low-crime areas, and staying far away from shitty people. You won't want to hear this but it's true. If you are actually serious about staying safe and avoiding violent crime, get the hell out of the ghetto. Yes this hard. Yes this will take superhuman effort. Yes you will need to shovel yourself out of generations of shit. However, this is 1000% more effective than "learning to fight real good."

BTW if you have the income to live in a decent neighborhood, the cost of gym dues, expert coaching, and weapons is probably trivial next to the cost of your mortgage. It is brutally unfair, but it'a true.
>>
My particular brand of karate based on the traditional Okinawa style through a modern lens is the best but in the absence of having me able to teach you explore the principles of Greco-Roman + strikes + just stand up
It is certainly NOT boxing or some such thing

The key is to control the hand fighting and distance, use your hands and elbows to strike inside the Clinch
Use your legs to target the lower body with stomps and ashiwaza

You will use your hand fighting to pepper him with pot shots in order to set up big throws that put him down and keep you standing, then stomp him out of it calls for it
>>
>>195617
I've done modern/sport martial arts in the past, I've done traditional arts, I've done the gay, modern self-defence stuff, and I recently started at a dojo that does a very strict, traditional form of Okinawan Karate.
I'd say you really need a mix of the lot. There are too many blindspots between them, but they all have their strengths, as well.

>- What is ESSENTIAL to have and to understand regarding Self Defense?
Learn about the places you are going to, learn about what not to do, learn how to deescalate situations, always inspect the people around you and read the room, be aware of closed spaces, pay attention to where doors are, learn how to use your environment and every day objects around you as basic fighting tools, maybe even carry non-letal stuff like tasers, flashlights, etc.. If you do have the opportunity to run without the guy following or throwing/shooting something at you, do it, leave as soon as possible. If you do get into a fight, when it's over and the faggot leaves, leave the place immediately, he might come back with even more faggotry. If you do get caught by someone and he has buddies, use everything around you in your favor, throw things, use everything to put distance between you and them, get them in a line or something, be the most dangerous prey you can be, but remember, anything you use against them, can be used against you, in fact, you are giving them a reason to use it. So only do it if you feel that might end the conflict. As far as actual fighting goes, be very direct, keep it simple, keep kicks to a minimum as not to lose your base, and when done, get the fuck out. Refrain from using lethal force if not needed, you might ruin your life. And lastly, use all the prejudice inside you to judge your potential opponents, it's better to feel judgmental and sorry later than feel regret after getting your ass beat or hurting someone badly.
>- What is the best Martial Art or the combination of Martial Arts for Self Defense?
Most conflicts start with hands, so Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA with some adjustments due to no-glove is a good base, add some Wrestling/Judo/BJJ to the mix for grappling defense, and learn some armed combat stuff, maybe do some studies with objects around you, even a broom can teach you a lot

At the end of the day, the best self-defense is not needing it.

I am planning on visiting an MMA gym soon. Being honest, I am scared as fuck. I am a long time sufferer of imposter syndrome and I feel like there's no way a physically awkward nerd like me can do this without embarrassing myself badly but I gotta try. My gf is constantly pestering me about having kids and deep down I feel like "how can I be a father if I can't even protect my family from other dudes?". That's basically my biggest motivation. I was wondering if you guys would be ok with me blogposting my progress here somewhere as I am also socially awkward(literally diagnosed with autism) and it's kinda easier to talk online about stuff like this than it is irl. Any beginners tips? Is there a general I should redirect my posts too? Btw I am a Vegeta chad(undefeated against Goku)

Your mind is in the right place anon. Deep down everyone has some level of imposter syndrome, just keep moving and doing your thing. If you ever feel unmotivated remember that motivation is the fuel of the week, the strong thrive on discipline. Go exercise a bit, work on your cardio and flexibility, specially if you hear any pops or anything weird. Don't be too picky about the gym you are going to, at first, go to the nearest one, get some experience, and if with time you want to experience other stuff or go to a more hardcore gym do it. And yes, do post your progress, I believe it will motivate other anons to do the same. Just remember this is a slow thread so keep using the same one for as long as possible.
>Any beginners tips?
Fighting for me is about two things: control and creativity. Control as in breathing control, stamina control, distance control, pain control, body control, etc. Most of these things you can learn and practice before even fighting. Muscle memory also, that is half of the game to almost any physical endeavor. Follow your coaches instructions, don't worry about speed, don't worry about energy, focus on your form and repeat, repeat, repeat. Lastly, when you gain confidence and learn the basics and its forms, don't be afraid to try new techniques, just don't get hurt.

Good luck anon.

As a small but mighty board, /xs/ has their own Soccer (not an extreme sport, I know,) team that fights other boards. This is done by making a computer play pro evolution soccer. Most recently, our former boardmates over at /pw/ won. Our roster is largely unchanged from the early days of the board: so I'm putting it up here for people to give feedback on. If there is a meme or shitpost you like from your threads (especially you guys, fight bros,) please hit me with it and what you think no longer represents the board. This is all autistic as fuck, I know.

Not sure if this is supposed to go on /xs/ or /sp/, but what do you think of the sport? All I see on here is HEMA.

I'm trying to get into it and I'm looking to pick up some gear. I probably want to fence Epee. Any recommendations? The club has gear, but a lot of it is gross and sometimes not working, especially for left handed stuff.

there isn't, swordsmanship derived sports do a better job at replicating the dynamism behind an exchange than the more "technically accurate" studies.

Does anyone else feel like MMA/combat sports are the sports in which the gap will never even come close to being closed.

Reaction time, Strength, Cardio. All of these things are crucial for combat sports.

But the biggest reason I think that is mentality. The mentality required to be elite at say MMA is way way more common in men than it is in women. There's barely any women in the ufc that trash talk and go to wars. Sure it happens but not nearly as much as it does in the men's game.

Why do boxers have so much more fights than mma guys?
1 reply omitted. Click here to view.
>>
Because boxing is an open field unlike MMA which works in closed promotions.
Once you arrive in the UFC or Bellator or whatever, you get matched up with the right guys and can quickly get a shot at the rankings if you keep winning.
Meanwhile in boxing you have to make a name for yourself by having a good record, which includes a lot of cans to start.
Also, back in the days boxers used to fight way more often because they didn't know abou CTE and shit, current top boxers also only fight 1 to 3 times a year.
Also in MMA there are more potential injuries.
>>
>>195485
And why does boxing not have greedy promotions?
>>
>>195485
They didn't know getting your face bashed in for 10 rounds was bad. The fighters weren't the only ones with CTE

MMA is far more destructive to the body. Boxing is more dangerous to the brain, but you don't get leg kicked and elbowed.

Just look at the faces of boxers and MMA fighters after their fights.

Modern skateboarding fucking sucks. Everyone skates like a robot: same tricks, same style (both clothing and trick execution), everyone at the skateparks are way too serious and tryhard. Nobody carves or has any real style, just the same in-line tight truck 5 approved tricks tried endlessly in a row.

How do we make skateboarding like 1988-1992 again? Bright day glo colors, giant ass fish boards with rails, tricks that are whatever the fuck you felt like doing that day and who fucking cares if you drag a hand or a toe as long as you surf out of it. People used to all have a sense of humor and goof around and improvise halfway through a trick, not stand around like soulless autistic robots and give up if the autism flip didn't land perfect in the sperg grind. And for the love of fuck, they listened to ROCK and METAL, not this horseshit faggot ass trap music rap bullshit.

Skateboarding used to be rad as fuck and whatever gay shit it is today isn't worth being around. I don't see any tricks around today that weren't being done back then, it just had more pizzaz then.

Like, watch this part and tell me you aren't 1000x more amped to skate than some bullshit dropped today: https://youtu.be/3c7XV-FC59k?si=RAAuO_Fu-BT8R2RF&t=21
