Grew up on 90s MTBs in the 00s, fell for the fixie meme around high school and college '10s, and now that I have $$$ I really don't care for peak performance Road nor MTB. I just want to cruise around the same dirt roads and trails around me in no rush. I had a gravel bike, it was okay. I saw what you guys meant by being under biked.Money sorta isn't an issue and for the first time ever I can afford high end shit, but instead of listing after the latest full suspension trail bike or high end proper gravel bike, I just want some old school and as simple as possible.... but capable of mild trails and dirt roads. I had some trek with 35mm tires. A Giant Fathom 29er.... KHS Zaca... Cannondale F400 I just get bored and want something different, not necessarily/better/None of my friends care to ride. I don't like group rides. I Don't like riding on the street. What should I get? It has to be all black and I'll put on a Brooks saddle.
>>1994337Shut the fuck up
The answer is invariably a rigid steel 29er.Cushy ride with no suspension to worry about, the only maintenance it'll ever need is the tires, drivetrain and brake pads, and you can go as wide or narrow with the tires as you want.I'd reconsider the color requirement, it's easier to get a frame that you like and repaint it than it is to find what you're looking for in exactly the color you want. Off the top of my head Marin Muirwoods and Brother Cycles Big Bro come in black.
>>1994995>Brother Cycles Big BroWait I mixed that up, it was Nordest Sardinha, Big Bro comes in brown.
>>1994995My bro posts about rigid 29ers, I give him a you>>1993793.Marin muirwoods it's good and dirt cheap, unique nowadays. Once they finally mount some thru axles and a replaceable derailleur hanger it could be perfect. Of course the other cheap alternative are s*urly. All the other euro boutique bikes of this kind come in frames I think. If you have money for complete bikes You also have the bombtrack beyond both in steel or alu, I think they come in black. If I was murigan I'd buy a Poseidon since Idgaf about steel, or a velo orange piolet. There's a lot of these kind of bikes really, bikepacking has a nice list.
>>1993793Just go the easy way and just buy a new around 2k$ hardtail 29in mtb.You get the best of modern tech like dropper posts, geometry and great groupsets without the silly markup of electronic groupsets and shit. With old bikes there is always something to wrench on, 26inch kids wheels are a nightmare if you are tall, old mtb suspensions suck mayor balls and 3x groupsets are a bitch to set up.

>>1995002I hope you got in the dark green color. Not a fan of the 1x but I understand people don't like FD's.I bet you will like it.
>>1995003>Dark Green ColorI just looked it up, it's meh. Would definitely get the Black version if I got that one.To be more specific, I bought a pre-owned white one which I think looks fire.
Ok so I have the design of my trailer down, but I'm not sure what to do about the hitch/arm system. I am thinking that this quick disconnect ball-joint system is probably going to be the easiest, having a 90 degree arm coming up from the A-frame with the receiver mounted to it, and the ball affixed to the rear rack. But is 35 degrees of movement going to be enough? I was considering heim joints, but those don't seem to offer any more rotation, maybe less. U-Joints, name brand ones anyway, are insanely fucking expensive. These QA1 ball joints are like 12 bucks shipped off ebay. McMaster Carr doesn't seem to have them anymore.I'm going to have to weld a plate, or just sandwich two plates on the rack and having the ability to remove the ball would be good. A plate welded with a nut so that it sits flush with the top platform of the rack seems like a good idea, but where should the ball hitch even be in relation to the bike? Should it be over the rear axle or closer like a fifth wheel hitch system? Also what would be a good location for the rear axle, keeping the wheelbase long enough to be balanced but not so far back that there is too much load on the hitch? I haven't welded anything yet, I just have the main frame cut, and that is going to determine where I put the center brace since that is where the axle and axle tube will mount.
>>1995004So you got it on sale? nice. I just like vibrant colors, but I understand most people like white/black/gray/brown.
>>1995007Yeah and it was the correct size. I have 30 days to try it out, figured why not.I like vibrant colors too, but it really depends on the color / shade for me.I would totally buy a bike of this color / share of green.
Any fellow Texans here? Summer is right around the corner and I am starting to feel the heat. I'm expecting that we will reach 100F (38C) temperatures very soon. Is there any way at all to deal with this? or I just have to embrace being sweaty?

Bumping this thread to remind non thru axle havers that there are NO thru axle standards and in fact every single fork has a different, custom, proprietary axle despite superficially having the same "spec"
As a first time thru axle haver, you people aren't kidding. 12x142mm with 1mm thread spacing but it's a sufficiently different pitch to be incompatible with my trainer and my trailer, both of which came with like three different thru axle adaptors. I am considering getting one of these things, but the price is keeping me back, and some of the constraints, e.g.: wheels, proprietary parts, expensive accessories, etc... >>1994953It's a c-line and i haven't a clue what the rest of your comment means, I don't want to either. The black lacquer paint looks great.
>>1994961Like someone already mentioned, the latch that rests on the frame will mar the lacquer over time. Personally I'm not precious about chipping the paint, but since you bothered to get the lacquered version you might consider something to protect the frame. There also may be some lacquer wear from the cables which is a minor design flaw. Really nice looking bike though. I recommend the toolset that fits into the frame. Stick a spare tube inside the frame as well, and you're golden.
America has globally, objectively low commute times. And generally the more public transit usage and walking there is the longer the commute.

>>1994465>Amsterdam has over 50% social housingAt what point does it become apparent that the government is controlling supply because they no longer want Amsterdam to grow? The Dutch government seems perfectly happy keeping Amsterdam as some weird tourist attraction instead of a dominant city like London, Paris, or Berlin. Trains moving workers in is just the most economical way of keeping the city functional with workers, it's artificial demand created by regressive zoning that prohibits normal growth.
>>1994939>At what point does it become apparent that the government is controlling supplyDepends, what level of government has overall control over land use in the city? Is it the city itself, a regional level, or national level? Because if it's at the city level, it could easily be the incumbent residents lobbying the city government to keep the status quo, same as most US cities. If land use is legislated at a higher level, you could be right.>a dominant city like LondonI wouldn't include London in that list. Worse housing crisis than San Francisco but with none of the USA's stronger COVID recovery. London is important because of NATO and the post-WWII international situation, not because of anything the city itself did right in terms of housing and land use. The UK overall is just a bigger dumpster fire every year.>it's artificial demand created by regressive zoning that prohibits normal growth.Trains (and also bicycles for people closer to their jobs) would still be the most efficient way to move people over longer distances even if Amsterdam and every neighboring city suddenly built Tokyo-style.

Anyone familiar with the C13 regen braking parameter in KT controllers? I currently have mine set to "1", and it seems fine for flat ground. What happens if I turn this all the way to "5" and bomb some hills? Will I notice a difference? Will something potentially blow up? The manual says to not do it, and so does my budget--so I'm asking if anyone does this on the regular or knows in depth about this setting.Pic related.
Is there anything more based than 90s mountain bikes?
yes. 90s hybrid bikes are FAR superior. 90s mtb have a shitty geometry, they have ALL a super short stack.in fact making gravel from 90s mtb is the most stupid idea. making gravel from 90s hybrid is basically what modern gravel bikes are....
