~~Crack edition~~>Where do I start?People typically start in the gym and branch off outdoors and find their niche, be it bouldering, trad, sport or a mixture of the above. Some never leave the gym at all. Ultimately it doesn't matter - just get started and enjoy yourself.>How fit do I have to be to start? Do I have to be able to do x amount of pull-ups?Being light, strong and flexible helps at the higher levels but climbing is open to almost anyone and is fairly intuitive to most. Even if your body is feeble and weak now, you will develop strength over time by virtue of just climbing. Climbing is a holistic sport and success often hinges upon many factors, not just strength and power, but having these qualities definitely helps when you breach into the higher grades.>What shoes do I buy?If you're starting out in the gym, don't worry too much: get some snug shoes without dead space that don't cause you lasting pain. Some people (such as the famed shoe designer Heinz Mariacher) recommend wearing soft shoes when you're starting out -- this makes sense since your footwork will probably suck and the increased feedback will pay dividends over time. You really don't need fancy expensive shoes when you're starting out, but certain shoe properties help send harder problems (e.g. stiff shoes for standing on tiny granite edges or soft shoes for sandstone/gritstone smears). Here are some useful resources for sizing:>https://sizesquirrel.com/>https://rockrun.com/blogs/the-flash-rock-run-blog/rock-climbing-shoe-sizing-guideComment too long. >>196331You should definitely keep hangboarding
Hangboarding should start before climbing does really
So I found out that my gym grades 5.10s as V3s.I feel less bad about climbing 5.10- now than I did before because that is probably where I'm at in bouldering too.
You don't really get stronger from climbing You just get more confident and bullish at certain final moves Grip strength is absolutely paramount
>>196478For context wikipedia says 5.10 is V0.
Hey guys,Started doing judo a couple of months ago, I know the throws from doing traditional ju jitsu but I'm struggling with the timing and kuzushi. How do I practice that? In particular kuzushi. Thanks

>>196316martial arts is a discipline that takes decades to master, you're just inexperienced to perform in a very proeficient way even the biggest retard can learn how to jab and cross but hardly ever they'll aply easily in fight just keep training and don't worry to much, keep improving the things that you can spot and understand and if you don't understand something yet just keep working on other things until you realize where you're failing
Same as learning proper punches.Practice that throw with a buddy dozens of times until you can do it blindfolded. My dojo has a part of the class dedicated to practicing throws.

Is sailing extreme?Introducing the sailing, boating, yachting, etc general. Any sailors? I recently started as a skipper for a local crew and it's quite fun.
>>196407>Is sailing extreme?Yes.>Introducing the sailing, boating, yachting, etc general.I saw sailing thread one day here, it wasn't popular, too few people do it.>Any sailors?I was enjoying sailing at one point of my life, but I live in place where no seas, only small lakes. I travelled to Ladoga (it is a big lake actually), Canary Islands and White Sea to sail. I stopped doing this because where I live it is hard to do sailing.I'm thinking is it possible to become a skipper and earn money with it somehow and what the job looks like. Is it always ride office workers along the sea during vacations? It also would be cool to make ocean crossing one day.

>>196376>anon 200ft in one mile is a very mellow climbNTAthats kind of what I was thinking too.. Im the new rider from like 20 posts above and my 1st couple of rides so far had like 8-900ft of climbing in maybe 2 miles which didn't really feel like much. Then again pic related from when I started road biking almost a decade ago so maybe I'm delusional. Also what cheap bike computer do you guys run? I really only want speedometer, odometer and time elapsed
>>196379Here is an out and back ride that I would consider steep but people still climb it regularly. It's just before the point where I would consider walking the climbing section. On the last mile it is 800 feet of climbing which kind of sucks. But it is super fun going mach Jesus on the way down.
>>196406My Tism apparently keeps me from posting images the first time
>>196370anon, literally everyone told you don’t use gorilla tape, I literally would bet money that the first time you heard of people using gorilla tape on rims was someone saying “don’t use gorilla tape as rim tape”Sealant doesn’t seal tape, spokes pokes happen and you are supposed to re-do the whole rim tape if it happens. It should be a 20 minute job if you only used proper rim tape (I peel off the old tape, wipe my rim with a dry rag and then start taping, 2 layers, EXTRA tight), but yes gorilla tape leaving an awful residue is the exact reason you do not use gorilla tape on rims
I've been using a spring that gave me a touch under 30% sag, and made the decision to try out one that was 50lb firmer. Put me at about 26-7% sag. Fiddled with the dials a bit to accommodate for the stronger spring, and holy moly the bike is alive now. I was able to gain more speed from pushing and pumping, and I think due to the increased force of the spring, my legs got absolutely fucking munted within 4 runs down the hill, when I was intending to be there the whole day. Such is life. First ride I decided to record out of interest as well since breaking my leg in February. Pic related kek. >Yea, we're back
If 100 random men and 100 random women were chosen to fight in mixed sex mma with legal groin shots, how many women would win?
>>186752Possibly 1 woman out of the 100, I would give that like a 2% chance or lower compared to 98+% chance of all 100 men winning.
>>186752They would wear a cup so not that many
Statistically speaking I would expect 5-10 women to win as I believe that is the overlap in the strength bell curves. If they're paired by weight class then I'd expect 0 or 1
>>186752You are aware that women can be kicked in the crotch as well and it hurts similarly badly, right anon? Or is this just another retarded inter-sex combat thread that you faggots are obsessed with for some reason? Surely not.
I expect a few women to win. There are some really beta and pacifist guys out there and some horrible and trashy women who don't mind throwing handsI know nerds cope and say otherwise but fighting is massively a mindset and the ability to do damage without thinking about it. You put some tech funko pop onions up against a ghetto ass female and she will fuck him up

Am I the only one here who practices muy thai for the social and fitness aspect, as well as self defense without having any desire to compete? I still do spar
>>180058I have L5 herniation too. I don't do MT but I do other stuff and it's fine. Yeah sometimes it gets flared up, but it's just a flare. You're not going to make it physically any more bulged or herniated than it already is; it ain't gymnastics. For the times when it doesn't flare up, it actually flares down. I'd try going on a light jog and if you can do that then you'll be fine at class
>>182181Strength training does however substantially increase bone density
>>185383Sparring isn't a theatrical production; it's part of your training. You spar to get better at fighting. Spar more often and get used to it so you don't freeze up. That's what it's for.
