Exactly how much resolution do you believe a 24MP bayer sensor delivers?
How detrimental do you think an OLPF (AA filter) is to image quality?
Do you believe digital is or can ever be "too sharp"?

>Exactly how much resolution do you believe a 24MP bayer sensor delivers?
Less than vision3 in 35mm.
>How detrimental do you think an OLPF (AA filter) is to image quality?
Very. Pixel level sharpness actually matters unless you're a boomer viewing from the back row. Later generations eschewed the reading glasses for 24/7 corrected vision, that's why we "pixel peep" and want retina displays now.
>Do you believe digital is or can ever be "too sharp"?
Digital is not sharp enough. 4x5 = 400mp, foveon.

You mean it has good dynamic range?

Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

Arri and Panavision listen to the high end cinematographers who use their cameras and lenses.

Deakins got the prototype Mini LF's for 1917, Arri and especially Panavision (and particularly Dan Sasaki of Panavision) detune and tune their lenses based on the wants and needs of cinematographers.
>>

You can blow up the Alexa 3.2K to 4K and it holds up & looks great on a movie screen. Resolution is one of the biggest midwit things in cinematography. I blame RED.
>>
>>4309864
>and it holds up & looks great on a movie screen
That's because 1080 looks good on a movie screen. That one of the supposedly best cinema cameras on the market (and still stupidly expensive) can't even do native 4k is kind of pathetic.
>Resolution is one of the biggest midwit things in cinematography
Going from working in 1080p to 4k was such a ridiculous leap in quality that I can't take this opinion seriously. Additional resolution gives you so much extra breathing room and produces a much sharper picture.
If my computer could edit it properly, I would be all in on 8k if not 12k, even though I'd still only deliver in 4k.
>>
>>4309867
I think arri cares more about a high dynamic range and not as much about resolution or k because images can be upscaled in post but you can’t add more dynamic range in post.
>>
>>4309870
>because images can be upscaled in post but you can’t add more dynamic range in post
This is honestly one of the stupidest things I've read recently. How do you think upscaling works? Do you think camera sensors just secretly have all this extra resolution stored in the video file that you can extract with a good program?

Very nice. Great light and blurr effect.

Just recently also photographed a standing car, but more because of the reflections the sourrounding that.
Composition is rather bad. The owner, an ex-yugoslavian bear of a man came over to me and asked me wtf I was doing. We chatted a bit and I was able to clarify, but he obviously wasn't too fond of me taking pics of his car

Thanks. It was super fun to shoot it, as usual with rolles. It takes some preparations, and you need a good driver, someone who's not afraid to be in the wrong lane (unless you shoot on a highway) and close to the other car, sometimes even a bit too close due to wide lens you want to use. But if you nail everything, the effect will be stunning.

>>4310016
Thanks. I like your photo too, The composition could be a little better, but that's perfectly understandable in an urban setting- so many aspects you don't have control of. The only thing I believe you could do better is using a polarizing filter. These glares from other cars are a bitch, plus a polarizing filter allows you to capture more nuanced details of the car, such as paint texture.

Posting another, this one is a bit controversial- I consider it the poorest shot I took yesterday. I had to resort to super over-the-top dramatic editing, because I'm a retard and forgot to switch to manual after shooting these rollers. Switched to 50mm, didn't modify camera settings.

>pic related

Got it in 2004 for my birthday. Dad spent $400 on this sucker plus the 256-512MB memory cards. It was awesome with the 4x optical zoom and fit in the back seat compartment of my motorcycle so I took it everywhere and got some great pictures. Sensor died not even three years later so my only complaint.

I’ll have to grab a few shots from my computer later, but looking back at some of the pics I’m still impressed with the quality of this little guy. They sometimes have that “DSLR” look instead of the processed iPhone camera look.

Depends on your use case
The star eater problem is present in the A7SII under certain circumstances / firmware.
Personally I would suggest the A7III, that's what I used for astro back when I owned it, if you're lucky you can find them for $1k flat. I sold mine to a dude for that price since his camera broke, you can find good deals still.

Example image I took with the A7III.

Judging from quick peek at thumbnails my (hobbyist) suggestion is you need to think about your compositions. A good photo usually has subject in relation of its surroundings and frame. Finding which kind of approach in composition would be the best one for the scene at hand of the most difficult parts of taking a photo at least for me. Center the subject in frame and snap is not valid practice for that.

Seems we don't got one right now, so I will start.

Pic related - it's from my LX100. I've heard that she is kinda prone to sensor dust, but is this actually sensor dust? Or an error on the Sensor?

There used to be two dots but I was able to eliminate one with the "vacuum cleaner trick" - cut out the bottom of a 0,5l bottle and put it over the extended lense. Then suck away.

Worked already two times for me, but not with this fucker.

It actually changes what is in the frame according to natures laws instead of stretching and cropping the image to produce an unnatural, overcooked looking clusterfuck according to ken rockwell's eyes

I've seen software perspective correction and it always looks like uncanny shit unless it's a 1000x600 postage stamp, then it just looks uncanny

You develop an eye for it after using highly distorted mirrorless lenses because they essentially do the same thing. Too much distortion correction might not affect the MTF chart but you can tell some things are being stretched and squished.

You don't lose any resolution by using a tilt-shift lens, while if you use software correction the part of the image that gets enlarged will be at a comparatively low resolution, and the fact that the image is stretched and resampled might cause artifacts.
Of course, the cost of a tilt-shift lens is in the diminishing returns realm, but it's an improvement.
>>4309782
If you don't have the money for a good TS lens it's not worth buying a lens specific for just one thing, better get a newer camera and short prime.
>>
>>4309796
A half decent canon/nikon TS lens is a lot cheaper than shooting large format unless you intend to take barely any pictures.

Actually it might be cheaper period depending on the LF gear you buy. Some of those view cameras get pricey just for rigidity, standard locks, and good overall condition.
>>
>>4309805
>a half decent TS lens
Your setup is already half decent, if you're going to invest money in it you might as well wait until you have enough money for a significant upgrade.
There also are cheaper and much more versatile options, like getting a better digital camera with a better lens, which you could use to improve any picture you might take and not just architecture with a tripod.
>shooting large format
That's definitely not worth it outside of a very few niches at very high levels and with very high budgets and I wouldn't suggest anyone on /p/ buy one, I meant NEW camera as in camera released in the last few years, a modern one.

Leicafags are an interesting species.
This is a thread to try and comprehend the minds of these consumerist retards.
Their subreddit, the premier place for Leica fans, has a rule explicitly stating that any photos need to "demonstrate a skill or technique that is incredibly difficult to execute correctly, has not been seen before, or both"
All the photos in the subreddit do not fit this idiotic criteria, yet are lauded.
99% of the posts there are about people buying gear instead of photos.
They care more about being seen with a Leica than actually using it.

everything you see in that photo is well within the realm of a line of credit, or a single guy with no kids and a unionized blue collar job (tradies can make $70k a year living in a place where a decent existence costs $40k a year). it's ridiculously attainable. 4chan posters have the most distorted perception of wealth on the internet. It's like everyone here is from the third world or eastern europe.

Although photography is an "expensive hobby", at the peak it's still cheaper motorcycles, cars, boats, guns, watch collecting, etc and for perspective on financial decisions most perfectly normal people with no achievements to warrant it finance $40k+ commuter crossovers when a $9000 2018 does the same thing, often better, without the heated seats as DLC.

Anyone have experience with the XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR?

Is it too big to walk around with and do street? Do you really need premium glass to resolve the 40MP of the X-T5?
>>
>>4309460
It's not too bad. Certainly not a "compact" lens, but about as big as a common kit lens.
You don't need the better glass to see benefits on the 40mp sensor, but those benefits are smaller than if you were using better glass. I usually opt for the 35 f1.4 or 35 f2 for walk around / street at that fl, and save it for shots I'm more focused on IQ.

Obviously I still use my MILC, but literally iphone cameras are fucking perfect for photography in general. You can even shoot RAW and have 3 native focal lengths to choose from (3 different lenses).

If the old magnum photographers could choose between an iphone or their clunky 50s film cameras they would've chosen an iphone 9/10 times.

Dont forget bluetooth transfer if you wanna do peer 2 peer transfer without bouncing off the internet.
Or the old IR transfer protocol, but phones don't come with IR blasters anymore so its actually obsolete now.
